MEN'S TENNIS: HUREMOVIC, SMITH LEAD LIONS AT RAGIN' CAJUN CLASSIC

LAFAYETTE -- Haris Huremovic and Josh Smith put together strong performances at this weekend's Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis Classic in Lafayette.

Huremovic won his opening-round A Division singles match over Mississippi State's Jose' Carlos Pinto, when Pinto retired down 5-7, 0-1 in the second set. LSU's Danny Bryan was Huremovic's second round victim, as with the match deadlocked at a set apiece, Bryan was unable to continue to a third set. In the quarterfinals, third-seeded David Corrie of Texas-Arlington was too much for Huremovic, eliminating the Southeastern sophomore by the score of 6-1, 6-2.

After droping his opening match, Smith rolled to the B Division consolation semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Smith earned a hard-fought 6-7, 6-3, 10-4 win over Southern's David Ensignia. In the semis, Southern Miss' Christopher Rea ousted Smith with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

In doubles play, both Southeastern teams advanced to the quarterfinals. In the A Division, Smith and Eric Subirats won their opening round match over USM's Juanjo Martin and Thomas Funke, 8-1. Huremovic and Olivier Nussbaum cruised past Lamar's Christian Olivier and Javier Easton by an 8-2 margin.
