WOMEN'S SOCCER: SOUTHEASTERN'S COUTU, HELMIG NAB SLC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

PLANO, Texas -- Southeastern's Courtney Coutu and Nicole Helmig were named Southland Conference Players of the Week in an announcement from the conference office Tuesday.

Coutu was named SLC Defensive Player of the Week and Helmig was honored as SLC Goalkeeper of the Week after Southeastern (9-1-1, 4-0 SLC) shutout conference foes Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State last week. Both Coutu and Helmig were previously honored by the conference on Aug. 29.

Coutu, a senior from Maple Ridge, B.C., has led a Southeastern defense that has only given up a SLC-low 10 goals on the season. A two-time First-Team All-SLC selection, Coutu has been named SLC Defensive Player of the Week twice in her career.

Helmig, a senior from Pensacola, Fla., recorded 1.5 shutouts last week to earn her second SLC Goalkeeper of the Week award this season. The school's all-time leader in shutouts, Helmig has a 0.87 goals against average on the season, lowest among SLC starting goalkeepers. This week's honor is the school-record eighth of Helmig's career.

Helmig and Coutu lead the red-hot Lady Lions, winners of their last four matches, into action on Wednesday when they face Nicholls State in a 4:30 p.m. match at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
