GASCON NABS SLC VOLLEYBALL HONORS FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WEEK

PLANO, Texas -- After establishing a single-match school-record in an already storied career, Southeastern's Sarah Gascon was named Monday the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in a release by the conference office.

The award marked the fifth consecutive week that Gascon, a senior from San Pedro, Calif., received SLC honors and the ninth time in her career. In two matches last week, Gascon averaged 9.56 digs per game, including a school-record 49 in Friday's five-game victory over Lamar. Gascon recorded the highest total of digs by a Division I player this season and her performance was the eighth-best in a five-game match in NCAA history.

This season, Gascon leads the nation in digs (6.68) and has recorded three matches with 40 or more digs which is the most by any player in the country.

Joining Gascon for SLC honors was Lamar's Bethany Johnson, who averaged 5.00 kills per game, including a career-high 26 against Southeastern.

Southeastern (11-9, 5-6 SLC) returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Thibodaux to face Nicholls State (9-11, 7-4 SLC) in a 7 p.m. match at Stopher Gym.

Keri Hamblin leads the Lady Lions on offense with 2.59 kills per game while following Gascon with 3.24 digs. Joining Hamblin on the Lady Lions' offensive attack is followed by Heidi Kellermann (2.21 kpg), Luciana Neves (2.12 kpg) and Juliana Neves (2.04 kpg) with Sartaria White leading the team with a .273 hitting percentage.
