Newsome earned Southland Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after helping the Lady Lions to their first-ever SLC championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Newsome posted double-doubles in wins over McNeese (23 kills, 21 digs) and HCU (18 kills, 11 digs).
