Ruffin extended his streak of events with a victory in 2017 to six with wins in the high jump at both the LSU Bayou Bengal and South Alabama Jaguar Invitational. Ruffin cleared 7 feet, 1.5 inches to eclipse the indoor school record of 7-0.5 he set earlier this season at the LSU Purple Tiger. That mark tops the Southland and is tied for 16th in the country this season. He also finished second in the long jump at 23-10.25. Ruffin went on to win the high jump at the Jaguar Invitational with a mark of 6-09.
