Lions, Lady Lions Take 3rd At New Orleans Invitational

    NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's cross country teams both placed third at the season-opening New Orleans Invitational Friday evening at Lake Oaks Park.
  
    The Lions finished with 61 points, coming in behind UL-Lafayette (35) and LSU (39). New Orleans (106), Southern (139) and Nicholls (166) rounded out the field.
  
    The Lady Lions recorded 77 points to finish behind LSU (24) and UL Lafayette (36). Nicholls (112) took fourth, Southern (136) fifth and New Orleans (136) sixth.
  
    Freshman Adam Cortez led the Southeastern men with a second-place time of 15 minutes, 27.16 seconds. Freshman Anthony Cordero also recorded a top-10 finish, coming in eighth in 15:51.89 for the 5K race.
  
    The Lady Lions were also paced by a freshman, Tara Stuntz, who came in sixth in 19:04.14.
 
NOTES
   Also scoring for the Southeastern men were junior Brett Olivier (12th, 16:24.90) and sophomore Bryant White (20th, 16:59.76).
 
   Freshman Reed Callegan (17:22.06) finished 23rd and junior Tajh Lewis (18:36.82) 33rd.
 
    Freshman Sophie Daigle (13th, 20:01.53), Breanna Bernard (15th, 20:15.26), sophomore Lill-Ann Hochkeppler (25th, 22:51.95) and freshman Lydia Pevey (28th, 23:37.96) were the other scorers for the Lady Lions.
 
    Lorraine Weiskopf finished 34th in 26:18.09.

    Senior Clarissa Smith, running unattached, placed seventh in 19:19.59.
 
    UL Lafayette's Stanley Limoh won the men's race in 15:25.95. LSU's Erika Lewis was the women's winner in 18:24.43.
 
UP NEXT
    Southeastern returns to action at the LSU Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Highland Road Park course in Baton Rouge.
