Lady Lions’ Martinez Places Third at South Alabama Invite

MOBILE, Ala. – Senior Addison Martinez led the Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams into spring break with a third-place finish in the pole vault at the South Alabama Invitational on Saturday.

The squads will now take a couple of days off before preparing for the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday.

"This is a timely break for us," Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. "I think we'll get them some rest and we'll evaluate them on Wednesday and see how they've recovered and then we'll decide what we will do for LSU. I'm thankful spring break fell on this weekend. The track season is a grind. When you start in January, it's a long season and that showed for the first time this season."

Martinez cleared 12 feet, 5.5 inches before just missing at 13 feet. Sophomore Maddison Mizell was seventh at 11-5.75.

"Addison jumped at 13 feet for the first time in competition today and had a real good meet," Brady said. "Things are starting to click for her and she is starting to put it together. I think she has a shot at breaking the school record here in the next couple of weeks."

Junior Tayla Celestine set a career best in placing 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.71 seconds. She also tied for ninth in the high jump at 5-0.5.

Junior Treshanna Taylor took eighth in the 400 meters in 58.25 while freshman Kaitlin Cooke finished 10th in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.25.

The Lion men had a pair of top-five finishes in the discus as senior Alex Young was fourth at 167-5 and sophomore Marcell Kecskemety fifth at 165-5. The Lions also got a fifth-place finish from its 4x100 relay in 41.39.

Junior Michael Seither placed sixth in the hammer with a throw of 171-2. Sophomore Rodney Ruffin tied for sixth in the high jump after clearing 6-1.25.

Senior Steven Barze was seventh in the long jump (22-8.5) and 10th in the 110 hurdles (15.23). Freshman Justin Taylor took seventh in the 400 hurdles (57.94) and eighth in the 100 hurdles (15.07). And senior Deandre Henderson came in eighth in the 200 in 21.58.
