MOBILE, Ala. – Senior
Addison Martinez led the Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams into spring break with a third-place finish in the pole vault at the South Alabama Invitational on Saturday.
The squads will now take a couple of days off before preparing for the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday.
"This is a timely break for us," Southeastern head coach
Sean Brady said. "I think we'll get them some rest and we'll evaluate them on Wednesday and see how they've recovered and then we'll decide what we will do for LSU. I'm thankful spring break fell on this weekend. The track season is a grind. When you start in January, it's a long season and that showed for the first time this season."
Martinez cleared 12 feet, 5.5 inches before just missing at 13 feet. Sophomore Maddison Mizell was seventh at 11-5.75.
"Addison jumped at 13 feet for the first time in competition today and had a real good meet," Brady said. "Things are starting to click for her and she is starting to put it together. I think she has a shot at breaking the school record here in the next couple of weeks."
