Colebrook Sets 400 record at Louisiana Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. – Senior Andre Colebrook shattered the school record in the 400 meters to highlight a day of personal bests for the Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams on the final day of the Louisiana Classic Saturday at the Louisiana-Lafayette Track/Soccer Complex.

"We had hoped for a good-weather meet and ULL certainly delivered that because it was a beautiful day for track," Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. "We had some performances that reflected that. There were a lot of seasonal and personal bests. We hoped for a good meet this week and I thought we were ready to run a good meet and we certainly delivered tonight. Just across the board, it was a really solid meet."

Colebrook crossed the line in first in 46.60 seconds, breaking the old record of 47.06 set by Ashley Riley at the 2015 J. Fred Duckett-Rice Twilight. Riley, now a senior, also broke his old mark in taking second in 46.70.

Freshman Ashley Davis just missed the school record in the shot put, finishing second at 50 feet, 1.25 inches, just .50 behind the record of 50-01.75 set by Jermisha Frazier at the 2015 Southland Conference Championships.

"She's following up what she did indoors," Brady said. "I was happy to see she was able to come back a couple of weeks outside of the conference meet and have a follow-up throw like that."

Colebrook's victory was one of six on the day by the Southeastern men while the Lady Lions got a victory from their 4x400-meter relay team.

Sophomore Marcell Kecskemety set a personal best in winning the shot put at 50-08.50. Senior Alex Young, competing for the Lions for the first time since the 2016 indoor season, was second at 55-11.25. Freshman Kevin Reichart finished 10th with a throw of 43-00.25.

    Another freshman, Grant O'Callaghan, won the 1,500 in a personal-best 3:57.95.

Senior Dwayne Woodard captured the 400 hurdles with a career-best 52.98. Junior Albert Martinez also set a PR in taking second in 54.43, as did freshman Gerald Colman with a fifth-place time of 55.15.

The Lions' 4x100 relay of Riley, senior Deandre Henderson, Woodard and junior Cliff Resais, took first in 40.98 seconds. Southeastern completed the sweep of the relays as the team of Henderson, senior Alex Holden, senior Dwayne Woodard and Riley won in 3:13.63. The Lions' "B" team of Colebrook, senior Dontrell Lyons, junior Cliff Resais and senior Maverick Bowleg was second in 3:14.90. The "C" squad of sophomore Tajh Lewis, Martinez, freshman Justin Taylor and Colman came in fifth in 3:19.93.

Senior Harry Wiggins finished second in the 3,000 steeple in 9:43.15. Sophomore Brett Olivier was sixth in 10:45.58 while also taking third in the 5,000 in 15:45.00. It was the first time Olivier had run those distances outdoors as a Lion.

Senior Julian Maze added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a personal-best 48-11.50. Holden came in fourth in the 800 in 1:52.28, while Lewis was seventh (1:55.19).

Lyons (47.98) took fifth and Henderson (PR 48.29) sixth in the 400. Senior Steven Barze was seventh in the 110 hurdles (14.98) and ninth in the high jump (6-02.75). Taylor established a career best with an eighth-place time of 15.12 in the 110 hurdles. And senior Dantrayl Sanders finished 10th in the 100 in 10.96.

On the women's side, the Lady Lions' 4x400 team of sophomore Dekayta Alex, senior Lekesha Jelks, freshman Lil-Ann Hochkeppler and senior Vanessa Williams took first in 3:48.32. The 4x100 squad of sophomore Jaslyn Bowman, junior Daijah Washington, sophomore Aareion Jacksion and junior Kaziah Rolle came in third in 46.69.

Alex earlier set a personal best in finishing fourth in 54.80 in the 400.
