Southeastern Squads Set PRs in Wet Conditions

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams did not let Saturday's inclement weather keep them from a solid outing at the Cowboy Relays "Bob Hayes Challenge" held at the McNeese track complex.

The Southeastern men's 4x400-meter relays and sprint medley relays came away with a pair of wins while junior Natalia Redondo and freshman Ashley Davis claimed victories in the throws.

"It wasn't the best of conditions but we had a good meet," Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. "There were several personal bests set today in some nasty conditions. We took it as preparation and practice and the experience of competing in the rain is invaluable. If we see this again somewhere down the line, at the conference championships, we will at least have one experience in it."

Southeastern finished fourth of 11 teams with 199.14 combined points. McNeese won with 316.42 points and was followed by Northwestern State (306) and ULL (215).

The Lions' 4x400 "A" relay won in 3 minutes, 10.61 seconds. The sprint medley relay finished first in 3:23.84.

Junior Cliff Resais, competing in his first meet as a Lion, took third in the 100 meters in 10.67 seconds.

Senior Steven Barze set a personal best in finishing third in the 110 hurdles in 14.82. Freshman Justin Taylor was fifth in 15.46. Barze also finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump after clearing 6 feet, 7 inches.

Sophomore Michael Seither was third in the hammer at 165-08 inches while also taking eighth in the shot put (45-11). Sophomore Marcell Kecskemety placed third in the shot put at 54-0.

Freshman Noel DelCerro tied for third after clearing 14-3. Junior Brandon Hollier was sixth at 12-08.

Senior Dwayne Woodard came in fourth in the 400 hurdles in 55.04 with junior Albert Martinez seventh in 56.09.

Senior Julian Maze placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 46-00.

On the women's side, Redondo won the hammer with a personal-best 179-04. Davis captured the shot put at 47-0.

Junior Addie Shafer also threw a career-best 145-05 in taking second in the javelin.

Freshman Myrielle Powell tied for second in the high jump after clearing 5-01.

The Lady Lions finished second in the 4x400 relay in 3:53.13.

Senior Addison Martinez cleared 11-03 for third in the pole vault.

Junior Daijah Washington came in third in the 100 in 12.13, while sophomore Jaslyn Bowman tied for fifth in 12.20. Senior Sharrona Williams, running unattached, won in 11.84.

Freshman Ebony Hills (15.37) was fifth in the 100 hurdles. Sophomore Raven Davis set a pair of personal bests in tying for sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.39) and finishing eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.80).

Southeastern will be back in action at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, Louisiana, next Friday and Saturday.
