Southeastern Captures Five Wins At LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE, La. – A record-setting effort by junior pole vaulter Devin King highlighted five victories by the Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams at the LSU Twilight Friday at the Carl Maddox Field House.

"It turned out to be a really good meet," Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. "It was a small meet and actually set up perfect for us. It was kind of a low-stress environment. I think we accomplished almost everything that we wanted to. Some really good things happened and I think we needed this to be a positive experience and we needed some good mojo and some energy moving into the conference championships."

Southeastern will head to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships starting Wednesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.

King tied his school indoor record with a vault of 17 feet, 11.25 inches. He previously reached that mark at the 2016 Southland Conference Championships. That mark is the best in the conference and ranks 10th in the nation in 2017, while also clinching a berth in the NCAA National Championships for King.

Senior Andre Colebrook captured the 400 in 47.81 seconds in his first time running the distance as a Lion. That time is the fastest in the Southland this season.

Colebrook later anchored the 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Deandre Henderson, Dwayne Woodard and Alex Holden that won in 3 minutes, 14.28 seconds. That time is third in the conference. The Lions 'B' team of junior Albert Martinez, sophomore Tajh Lewis and freshmen Martavius James and Grant O'Callaghan was third.

Sophomore Marcell Kecskemety picked up his first win as a Lion, taking the shot put with a throw of 53-11.75. Sophomore Michael Seither was second at 44-02.75. Seither had opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 49-03.5.

On the women's side, Senior Sharrona Williams led six Lady Lions in the top eight in the 200 meters, taking home her second individual title of the season in 24.38 seconds. That was the third-fastest time in the conference. Fellow senior Kaelynn Smith was second in 24.57. Sophomores Aareion Jackson (24.89) took fourth, Jaslyn Bowman (25.91) fifth and Dekayta Alex seventh (PR 25.21). Junior Daijah Washington placed eighth (25.44).

Williams earlier finished eighth in the 60 in 7.62.

O'Callaghan had his best individual finish of the season after coming in second in the mile in 4:20.69, beating his previous best time by nearly nine seconds.

Freshman Noel DelCerro was third in the pole vault at a personal-best 15-7, tied for the 10th-best vault in the Southland this season.

Senior Julian Maze (46-11) took fourth in the triple jump.

James led a group of four Lions in the top 10 in the 200 by coming in fifth in 22.58. Senior Dantrayl Sanders (22.78) was sixth, sophomore Devin Dixon (PR 22.98) eighth and Woodard (22.99) ninth.

Lewis (1:58.95) was fifth and senior Harry Wiggins (1:59.36) eighth in the 800. Freshman Justin Taylor finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.52. Senior Stephen Cassingham (9:30.91) and sophomore Brett Olivier (9:47.90) took sixth-seventh in the 3,000.

Five Lady Lions set career bests in recording top four finishes. Sophomore Tayla Celestine came in third in the high jump at 5-03.25 while freshman Ashley Davis threw 46-01.25 for third in the shot put. Davis' throw ranks fifth in the league.

Junior Treshanna Taylor placed third in the 400 in 59.85 while freshman Lil-Ann Hochkeppler took fourth in the 800 in 2:18.65. Junior Natalia Redondo was fourth in the weight throw at 54-03.75.

Junior Clarissa Smith placed fourth in the mile in 5:31.58. Senior Addison Martinez and sophomore Maddison Mizell tied for sixth in the pole vault at 11-04.25. That height was a personal best for Mizell.
