Lions Add Justin Posthuma To 2013 Gridiron Roster

JUCO quarterback began career as redshirt at UCLA

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University football coach Ron Roberts added more experience and depth at the quarterback position on Thursday when he announced the signing of junior college product Justin Posthuma to a Grant-In-Aid for the 2013 season.

Posthuma, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound product from Pasadena, Calif, will two years of eligibility remaining for the Lions.

“Justin is a kid that has a good arm and he brings experience in playing the game to our football team,” Roberts said. “He'll give us another experienced quarterback who will add depth at the position and you can never have too many of them.”

Posthuma spent the past two seasons at Pasadena City College after beginning his career in 2010 at UCLA. Last season at PCC, Posthuma completed 60-of-126 passes for 799 yards and three touchdowns. His best game during the season came against Citrus (Calif.) College where he went 19-for-35 for 279 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

As a freshman in 2011, Posthuma was limited to two games for the Lancers but finished 25-for-40 for 443 yards and five TDs. He opened the year against Glendale College going 18-for-22 through the air for 323 yards and five TDs, highlighted by a school-record 96-yard scoring toss.

Posthuma was an All-CIF performer at Pasadena's St. Francis High School where he was named the Mission League Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2009. He threw for 2,115 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior while rushing for 787 yards and 14 scores.
