HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team went through a rugged two-hour workout on Friday in Strawberry Stadium in preparation for its first scrimmage of fall camp.
With its offensive and defensive schemes mostly installed, the Lions used portions of Friday's practice working on situational elements, including special teams, third-and-short situations and play in the red zone.
“Offensively and defensively, most everything is installed and we're pretty good,” Southeastern head coach
Ron Roberts said. “We're covering some situations and stuff right now on a continuous basis. We'll try to get everything covered in the next week.”
Southeastern will hold its first of three scrimmages of fall camp on Saturday beginning at 6:50 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The Lions are slated to run between 80-100 plays with live action in all areas except in special teams. The public is invited to attend.
“Saturday is going to be a big test to see who is going to play,” Roberts said. “That's going to be a big part and will move the depth chart around by who performs. It's very close (depth chart), especially in a lot of areas, and that's a good thing because you're creating some depth. Some positions, you want them to reach out there and separate themselves, but that really hasn't occurred.”
