HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will look to remain in contention for the Southland Conference title when it travels to face No. 4-ranked Sam Houston State on Saturday at Bowers Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

One of three teams remaining with one loss in SLC play, Southeastern (3-5, 3-1 SLC) looks to bounce back after a disappointing 34-14 loss at Central Arkansas last week. The Lions trailed 21-14 in the fourth quarter before UCA put the game away with a touchdown and a pair of field goals.

Quarterback Nathan Stanley has led Southeastern on offense completing 145 of 265 passes for 1,546 yards and seven touchdowns. Stanley Moore and Tony McCrea have caught 24 and 23 passes respectively to lead a deep receiving corp that has seen seven players with 10 or more receptions on the season.

Freshman Xavier Roberson, who made his debut at running back against McNeese State on Sept. 22 after being signed as a defensive back, has rushed for a team-high 260 yards for Southeastern.

Defensively, Kaleb Muse leads Southeastern with 64 tackles followed by John Graves (50 tackles), Cqulin Hubert (44), Marice Sutton (42) and Tyler Stoddard (42). Linebacker Devan Walker leads the Southland Conference and is 24th nationally in sacks per game (0.71) and Robert Alford is tied for the SLC lead with three interceptions.

Southeastern faces its second consecutive ranked opponent in SHSU (6-2, 4-1), which has won its last five games and is averaging 42.5 points per game on the season. The Bearkats, who lead the Southland Conference in scoring offense and rushing offense (285.6), are just as potent on the defensive side of the football where they pace the league in scoring defense (18.1), total defense (303.1) and rushing defense (67.0).

Walter Payton Award candidate Tim Flanders leads SHSU's vaunted rushing attack with 803 yards and 12 TDs. Richard Sincere has rushed for 395 yards for the Bearkats with Keyshawn Hall adding 297 yards and an 11.0 average.

Brian Bell has completed 110 of 174 passes for 1,474 yards and 13 TDs for SHSU with Trey Diller catching a team-high 36 passes and a pair of scores. Darnell Taylor leads an active defensive unit with 61 tackles followed by Jesse Beauchamp (50) and Darius Taylor (45 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks).

SHSU leads the all-time series, 9-4, and have won the previous two meetings. Southeastern's last victory in the series came in the 2009 season in a 37-21 victory.
