Lions Wrap Up Spring Drills With Spirited Workout

Southeastern reports for fall practice on Aug. 2

Brian Young passed and rushed for a touchdown in team drills on Friday
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University football concluded spring drills on Friday as the Lions worked out for two hours in full pads on the Southeastern Practice Fields.

The Lions, who open the 2011 season on Sept. 3 against Tulane, held several periods with live tackling that also featured Southland Conference officials. Foregoing an annual spring game, Southeastern used the team periods to run 10-12 plays per session with the Lion offense scoring three times in the final two periods.

Quarterback Brian Young, a former Hahnville High product, connected with Simmie Yarborough on a long touchdown pass before Young and redshirt freshman Jordan Wells each scored on short running plays.

“We came out spring practice with no major injuries and that is always a positive,” Southeastern head coach Mike Lucas said. “With just 15 opportunities in a 34-day period to practice, we felt like we needed to have 15 good practices to give some of our younger guys some experience.”

Southeastern, which returns 37 letterwinners, will report for fall camp on August 2 and will open its home schedule on Sept. 10 against FCS opponent Savannah State.

Season tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466.
