Southeastern Heads to South Alabama

Lady Lions to face USA at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Mobile

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team will take a break from Southland Conference play on Saturday, heading to South Alabama for a 2 p.m. non-conference road contest.

The Lady Lions (5-10) are coming off a 10-6 comeback win over Alcorn State on Thursday. Sophomore Jordan Logan, freshman Michelle Duhe, sophomore Lauren Coniglio, junior Tamra Ladnier and senior Amber Freeman had two hits apiece for the Lady Lions. Logan, Coniglio and junior Katie Duhe each drove in two runs.

Southeastern heads into Saturday's contest with a .239 team batting average. Logan leads the Lady Lions with a .377 batting average and 20 hits on the year, as the sophomore from Garden Grove, Calif. has hit safely in 13 of 15 games in 2010. Freshman Kati Morse (.375), Katie Duhe (.333), sophomore Katelyn Thomason (.333) and senior Chelsea Takacs (.318) are the team's other top hitters for average.

Sophomore Meghan Gomez leads the team with two home runs, while Freeman, Katie Duhe, Ladnier and freshman Kelsey Nichols have all homered this season. Freeman and Katie Duhe are tied for the team lead with eight runs batted in. Gomez, Logan, Freeman and Katie Duhe also share the team leads with six runs apiece. Thomason leads the team with a .458 slugging percentage, while Takacs is tops on the squad with a .423 on-base percentage.

The Lady Lions have a 4.41 team earned run average on the year. Thomason (3-3, 4.45 ERA, 33 K, 33.0 IP), junior Bailey Zievert (1-0, 1.08 ERA) and Morse (0-2, 3.91 ERA) have been Southeastern's most effective pitchers. Senior Catherine Gunther (0-3, 5.16 ERA), freshman Elise Kittrell (0-1, 6.00 ERA, 1 save) and sophomore Vicki Honeycutt (1-1, 8.08 ERA) are the other pitchers for the Lady Lions.

South Alabama (9-9) is led offensively by Brittany Fowler, who boasts a team-best .351 batting average. Marissa Boyd (.324) and Christin Crocker (.313) give the Lady Jaguars a trip of plus-.300 hitters. Haley Hopkins leads USA with six home runs and 15 RBI.

Beth Pilgrim (6-4, 2.61 ERA, 78 K) is the ace of the South Alabama pitching staff. Katy Neal (2-1, 3.05 ERA) and Morgan Druhan (1-4, 6.77 ERA) are the other Lady Jaguars to see action in the circle this season.

Southeastern is 1-6 all-time versus South Alabama. Last season, Southeastern fell to South Alabama, 8-0, in Mobile. In a later meeting in Hammond, Pilgrim outdueled Gunther in a tightly-contested 1-0 contest.

Saturday's contest is the first of five straight on the road for the Lady Lions. Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will head to Mississippi Valley State for a 3 p.m. contest in Itta Bena, Miss.
