FALL WORLD SERIES ROSTERS
HAMMOND – One day after the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants begin the Major League Baseball World Series, Southeastern Louisiana starts its Fall World Series. The Lions have been divided into two sides for a best-of-three showdown, which begins Thursday at Alumni Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Seniors drafted teams Monday night, with first baseman
Joe Sparacino dominating pitcher
Brandon Efferson in rock-paper-scissors to earn the first pick. Sparacino's Gold team selected junior pitcher Joseph Koon, a transfer from Itawamba (Miss.) Community College. Koon was part of a signing class that earned honorable mention praise from Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Efferson's Green squad picked up the first position player, opting for junior infielder
Justin Boudreaux. He is coming off a season that saw him hit for a .313 average, plus a team-high 13 home runs and 66 runs batted in.
The Green team also features junior outfielder
Cody Gougler, who hit .337 to lead the Lions last season, and senior outfielder
Jeff Harkensee, Southeastern's best in doubles (27) and total bases (127).
Senior pitcher
Tyler Watkins is part of the Gold side's pitching staff. His 3.80 ERA in 2010 was Southeastern's lowest. Senior outfielder
Cass Hargis will also suit up for the Gold group, following a campaign that saw him rack up a team-high 79 hits.
In addition to bragging rights, the winners will earn a dinner of steak and potatoes at the team's Christmas party. The losers will dine on beans and weenies.
The second game will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, with the third set for 11 a.m. Saturday.
