Sr. Slavko Stevic now sits 6th in Division I in the high jump after the Samford Open
FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team earned its second-straight Southland Conference Athlete of the Week award, this time on the field as
Slavko Stevic was named the Conference's Field Athlete of the Week by the SLC office on Wednesday.
Stevic, a senior high jumper from Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, ended his day at the Samford Open on Saturday standing on the third podium step for the high jump competition, but in the process, set himself up for future success as he's now solidly in place for a spot at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Massachusetts in March.
He successfully cleared 2.19 meters (7'2.25") on Saturday, putting him atop the Southland Conference in the high jump competition at week's end by 0.07 meters (2.75"). That jump also moved him to third in the South-Central Region and tied for sixth in all of Division I, well inside the top-16 cutoff line to qualify for the NCAA Championships by 0.03 meters (1.25"). Stevic even ran in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, crossing the line in the 23.76.
This is Stevic's first SLC Athlete of the Week award of the season, and first Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award of his career. His award comes on the heels of
