Southeastern Set to Open 2023-24 at Grover Page Classic

Five newcomers to make SLU debut this week

HAMMOND, La. – A new-look Southeastern Louisiana University golf team will make its 2023-24 debut this week, competing in The Grover Page Classic Monday and Tuesday at Jackson Country Club.

Southeastern will be paired with Presbyterian College for the first two rounds Monday, which tee off at 8:15 a.m. Live scoring, provided by host UT Martin, will be accessible via the golf schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

The Lions return just two letter winners from last season's squad. Both SLU veterans – Grayson Glorioso and Patrick Blaum – will be among the starting lineup. Junior college transfers Griffin Dorr and Lexton Ford, along with freshman Ethan Dial, will round out the Southeastern starting five.

All told, this week's tournament will see five Lions make their SLU debut. Freshmen Nicholas Wall and Landen East will compete as individuals in Jackson, Tennessee.

"We're excited about our depth heading into the season," Southeastern head coach Lawrence Allan commented. "We feel like we have nine guys who are capable of playing in our starting five. We're looking for Grayson and Patrick to provide leadership and we're excited to see what our newcomers can do out on the course."

SLU will be one of 14 teams tackling the 6,849-yard, par-72 course. The Lions will be one of three Southland Conference teams at the event, along with New Orleans and Nicholls. The field also includes the host Skyhawks, Tennessee Tech, Belmont, Austin Peay, Missouri State, SIU Edwardsville, Samford, Tennessee State, Eastern Illinois, Murray State and Presbyterian.

"We're playing against good competition on a beautiful golf course," Allan commented. "Being big off the tee is not as necessary on this course, so the teams that can keep it in play and out of trouble will be successful this week."

This week's tournament is the first of five this fall for the Lions. Southeastern will next head to the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational Sept. 25-26 in Madison, Illinois.
