Jackson Earns Women's Field Honor, SLU Sweeps Men's Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team collected three Southland Conference Athlete of the Week honors after a successful showing at the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University on Saturday with Kristian Jackson earning her second Women's Field Athlete of the Week award while Javon-Taye Williams (Track) and Terrell Webb (Field) swept the Athlete of the Week honors on the men's side, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Jackson, a graduate student from Zachary, La., made it two awards out of three weeks, doing so after winning two gold medals from the Pelican Relays. In shot put, her toss of 14.56 meters (47'9.25") was good enough to win that competition while her season debut in the hammer throw went just as well as her throw of 52.2 meters (171'3") also earned her gold. Her debut performance in the hammer throw has her number three in the conference standings currently while she continues to have the longest throw in the Southland in both shot put and discus. If the season ended today, she would qualify for the NCAA Regionals in shot put. This is Jackson's fourth career Southland Athlete of the Week award and second of the year.

Williams, a senior middle distance runner from Kingston, Jamaica, broke a 35-year-old school record at the Pelican Relays as he finished the 800-meter run in 1:48.64, earning the gold medal in the event in doing so and catapulted himself into the best time in the conference in that discipline this season while also moving into position to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. This is his first career Conference Track Athlete of the Week award.

Webb, a senior from Canada, also took home a gold from the Pelican Relays as he extended his Southland Conference lead in the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 64.09 meters (210'3"). That toss also put him currently in position to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. This is Webb's first career Conference Field Athlete of the Week award.

Jackson, Williams, Webb, and the rest of the Lions will be back in action this Saturday at SLU's lone home meet of the season, the Strawberry Relays, at the Southeastern Track Complex.
