JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Lauren Stillians broke a 1-1 tie in the 82nd minute to lead the undefeated Lady Lion women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Austin Peay and give the Gamecock Classic championship to Southeastern in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Field.

With the win, Southeastern (6-0-1) is off to its best start in school history and is unbeaten through its first seven matches for the first time ever. The Lady Lions trailed Austin Peay (6-2) at the half, after allowing an own goal.

However, goals by Stillians and freshman Cambri Prevost allowed the Lady Lions to rally for the victory. Senior Natalie Santana and sophomore Kerry McWhirter were credited with assists for the Lady Lions.

Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle was pleased with his team's ability to come from behind for the first time this season.

“We weren't as sharp as we would like in the first half, but we rebounded well and played much better in the second half,” Hornbuckle said. “Our ball pressure was much better after halftime. Lauren and Cambri both scored nice goals and the work up top by Karly Dagys was again key for us.”

Southeastern fell behind for the first time this season due to an own goal in the eighth minute. Junior Kyle MacIntosh attempted to clear a ball near the Lady Lion net, but the ball deflected off her into the net. The goal was only the third allowed this season by junior goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus, who finished with a career-high eight saves and has a 0.42 goals against average in 2010.

Prevost knotted the score in the 70th minute. The Hammond native took a pass from Santana and beat Austin Peay goalkeeper Carley Newman for her second goal of the season. The assist was Santana's 23rd of her career, moving her into a tie for second on the school's career list with former teammate Candice Wallace and two away from the Southland Conference record of 25 held by former Lady Lion and Southeastern Athletics Hall of Famer Becca Weingartner.

Stillians gave the Lady Lions the good with her second goal of the season. With just over eight minutes left, McWhirter played a ball deep into the Lady Govs' box that deflected off Newman and Stillians was right there to knock in the game winner. The goal was the second of the year for the Manhattan Beach, Calif. native, while McWhirter was credited with her team-high sixth assist of the year.

Southeastern will be back at home for its next three matches, starting Friday with a 4:30 p.m. contest versus in-state foe Louisiana-Monroe.
