Philipp Westermann advanced to match play competition at the 2010 British Amateur Championship after finishing in a fifth-place tie after two rounds of play that concluded Tuesday.
Westermann, from Pinneburg, Germany, is scheduled to open match play on Wednesday at 10:56 a.m. BST (4:56 a.m. CST) against Scotland's Michael Stewart, who plays collegiately at East Tennessee State.
Westermann opened stroke play on Monday at North Berwick recording a 3-under-par 68 before shooting a 1-under 70 on Tuesday at Muirfield. After firing a 37 on the front nine that included bogeys at the No. 1 and No. 7 holes, Westermann bounced back on the back nine recording birdies on his final two holes and shooting a 2-under 33.
Westermann finished three shots off the lead that was held by England's Tommy Fleetwood and was in a fifth-place tie with five other players that included ETSU's Rhys Enoch, the winner of the NCAA East regional last month.
Each match will consist of one round of 18 holes except the Final on Saturday which will be over 36 holes. The winner will receive exemption into the 150th Anniversary Open Championship and a Masters Tournament invitation.
