HAMMOND - Mike Lee of St. Amant was the winner of the Buddy 50cc scooter raffled by P.R.I.D.E (Positive Role Models Involved in the Development of Excellence), the Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions' support and mentoring organization.
The winning ticket for the scooter was drawn at P.R.I.D.E's May 8 Bunko for Basketball scholarship fundraiser at Southeastern's Twelve Oaks.
Lee bought two of the 1,024 tickets sold for the jazzy green scooter, which was donated to P.R.I.D.E. for the raffle by Michael and Denise Holly in memory of Michael Holly's father, Floyd, who coached high school girls basketball. The scooter was purchased from Big Easy Scooters and Cycles in New Orleans. The $5,120 in raffle ticket sales, along with Bunko for Basketball proceeds, will go to the P.R.I.D.E. Scholarship for Lady Lion basketball student-athletes.
Lee purchased his tickets while at Southeastern's Alumni Field for the Lions vs. University of Alabama baseball game. Lee's nephew,
Justin Boudreaux, plays shortstop for the Lions. Lee has another connection to Lions athletics, since his uncle, Paul Alexander, was an All-American football player who played for the Lions in 1960 and 1961.
Southeastern head coach
Lori Davis Jones said the third annual Bunko for Basketball fundraiser earned more than $22,000, topping last year's total of $17,000.
The P.R.I.D.E. Scholarship provides Lady Lions basketball players with financial support for post sports eligibility coursework. Since its creation in 2007, the scholarship has been awarded to three players, who have all earned Southeastern undergraduate degrees.
