HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana junior
Katie Duhe, sophomore
Jordan Logan and sophomore
Meghan Gomez represented the Lady Lions on the 2010 All-Southland Conference Softball Teams, which were released by the league office on Tuesday.
Duhe, a Lutcher native who split time between second base and shortstop, was named to the second team as a utility player. Gomez, a catcher from Alvin, Texas, and Logan, an outfielder from Garden Grove, Calif., were both honorable mention selections.
Gomez made her second straight appearance on the All-Southland team, as she was an honorable mention outfield selection as a freshman. Both Duhe and Logan received league accolades for the first time.
“We're very pleased to see Jordan, Meghan and Katie named to the All-Southland team,” Southeastern head coach
Pete Langlois commented. “Even though we had a disappointing finish as a team, these three produced for us on the field and are well deserving of individual honors.”
Fourth in the Southland with a team-high .363 batting average, Duhe finished the regular season ranked among the league leaders in multiple categories including slugging percentage (.556, 8th), on-base percentage (.416, 11th), hits per game (1.00, 13th) and fewest strikeouts per game (0.18, 2nd). Duhe also led the team with 23 runs batted in and seven doubles, while finishing tied for second with five home runs. In her three years with the program, she is hitting .338 with 144 hits, 68 runs, 16 home runs, 78 RBI and 31 doubles.
Duhe earned her first All-Southland nod due in large part to a torrid finish that saw her hit safely in the final 14 games, tying a school record. During that stretch, she hit .632 and raised her season batting average 119 points. Thanks to her tremendous final month of the season, Duhe ended the regular season with the Southland's highest batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.722) and on-base percentage (.506) against league opponents.
While Duhe was team's hottest hitter down the strech, Logan was the team's most consistent in 2010, as her batting average remained above .300 all season. Third on the team with a .303 average, Logan led the team with 50 hits to go with 16 runs. Her hit total was 11th-highest in the Southland, while she ranked 10th in the league with 1.04 hits per game. Her 16 multi-hit games also were tops on the team and she ended her sophomore season with career totals of 96 hits and 34 runs scored.
For the second straight season, Gomez led the team in home runs (seven) and runs scored (25). All but one of her home runs came in league action, as did 14 of her 18 RBI. Her home run and home run per game (0.15) totals were both good for 12th in the Southland Conference, while her six bombs in league play were tied for third-most by a Southland student-athlete. In her two season with the Lady Lions, Gomez has hit 15 home runs with 42 RBI and 28 runs scored.
Regular season co-champion Stephen F. Austin took home three individual awards, as senior outfielder Kendal Harper was named Player of the Year, sophomore first baseman Kayla Gutowski repeated as Hitter of the Year and head coach Gay McNutt was named Coach of the Year.
Gutowski was not the only repeat winner, as Texas State sophomore Chandler Hall earned Pitcher of the Year accolades for the second consecutive season. UT Arlington pitcher Teri Lyles took home Freshman of the Year honors, while sophomore outfielder Hannah Schwarz of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was tabbed the league's top newcomer.
Members of the All-Southland Conference Softball Teams are nominated by the league's head coaches and selected by the coaches and sports information directors. In order to be eligible to be put on the team at a certain position, a student-athlete must have played at least 75 percent of her team's Southland Conference games at that position.
