Lamar Hands Southeastern 5-2 League Loss

BEAUMONT, Texas –
Southeastern Louisiana freshmen Camille Pilon and Isabel Brito each earned singles victories, but Lamar was too much for the Lady Lions and took a 5-2 Southland Conference victory in league women's tennis play Saturday afternoon at the Lamar Tennis Facility.

The Lady Lions fell to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in Southland Conference play. Lamar (13-8, 8-3 Southland) earned the victory with four singles victories and two doubles wins.

Lamar earned the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 3, Southeastern sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke improved to 9-10 as a team, defeating Lamar's Manami Kuroda and Alessandra Pennesi, 8-3. The Lady Cardinals countered with wins at the top two positions.

In singles play, Brito picked up her fifth singles victory of the spring at No. 5. The Badajoz, Spain native rolled past Kuroda, 6-0, 6-1.

Pilon (11-8, 5-5 Southland) won her third straight singles match at No. 3. The Orleans, France product recovered from a tough second set to defeat Manijee Ashrafi, 6-2, 2-6, 13-11. Lamar took the win, however, with straight set wins at the remaining four positions.

Southeastern will close out the regular season on Sunday, facing league foe A&M-Corpus Christi at 12 p.m. in Beaumont, Texas.
