No. 2/3 Baylor Hands Southeastern First Loss, 106-41

Griner's triple-double helps Lady Bears overwhelm 5-1 Lady Lions

WACO, Texas – Baylor sophomore forward Britney Griner posted a triple double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots to lead the No. 2/3 Lady Bears to a 106-41 victory over previously unbeather in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

The Lady Lions fell to 5-1 overall with their first loss of the season. Baylor, ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and third in the ESPN Coaches poll, ran its record to 7-1 overall.

Southeastern was held to 26.6 percent (17-for-64) shooting in the contest and the Lady Lions committed 23 turnovers. Junior guards Latoria Holder and Gabrielle George led Southeastern with eight points apiece, while senior center Rachel Mackie led Southeastern with six points.

Griner was one of four Lady Bears in double figures. Ashley Field and Makenzie Robertson added 12 points each, while Odyssey Sims chipped in with 10 points. Baylor shot 56.7 percent (38-for-67) from the floor and out-rebounded Southeastern, 48-31.

Baylor opened the game with a 28-5 run and never looked back, holding Southeastern to 22.6 percent (7-for-31) shooting in the opening half and leading by as many as 47 in the opening period. Griner led Baylor with 20 points, six rebounds and seven blocks in the initial 20 minutes, sending the Lady Bears to a 64-18 halftime lead.

Southeastern was able to manage 23 points in the second half. However, the Lady Lions could get no closer than 48 in the second half.

The Lady Lions will have a week off before traveling to Lafayette for a 2 p.m. game at Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, Dec. 5. Sunday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net.
