Wayne Booker played two seasons for the Lions as they were making the transition to Division I status and playing as an independent in the NCAA. He was a two-time All-Southeastern Indepenedent selection and was an all-Louisiana pick in 1981-82.

He led the Lions in scoring once and twice led the team in assists. He still ranks among the all-time rebound leaders and helped Southeastern two winnings seasons in its first two years in Division I competition. He was inducted into the Itawamba Community College Hall of Fame in 2005.
