T.J. "Turk" Campion was the first lineman in Southeastern history to be named All-American and among the first four athletes to be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. In 1942, Campion was credited with a conference record six blocked punts. When football resumed after the war, Campion was again named All-American in 1946 and was a member of the first undefeated team in school history, as the Lion finished the campaign 9-0. Campion went on to be drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.
