James Waldrop was an All-Conference guard for the Lion basketball team in 1941. As a member of the football team, he scored a then-school single game record three touchdowns in a win over Murray State in 1940. Waldrop later played minor league baseball, was a successful prep football coach at Morgan City and completed his coaching career as head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Southeastern.
