Horace Belton finished his brilliant football career in 1976 as the state of Louisiana's all-time leading rusher with 3,222 yards breaking a record that had stood for nearly 30 years. Belton, who remains ranked second in Southeastern history and high in the state in career rushing yardage, also scored 202 points in his career. He also set Southeastern records for single-season yardage (1,168, 1975), rushing touchdowns (14, 1974) and points scored in a single-season with 90 (1974). His school career marks include rushing attempts (682) and rushing touchdowns (31). He is one of only two football players, along with Hall of Famer Ronnie Hornsby, to have his jersey retired. Following his Southeastern career, he also played in the National Football League as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Belton passed away in May 2019.
