Gino Marino played running back for the Lions from 1970-73. During his four years, Marino rushed for 1,412 yards, ninth-most in Southeastern history, on 369 carries. He also scored two touchdowns and had three 100+ yard rushing games. But, it's Marino's efforts off the field that prompted his induction into the Hall of Fame.
Marino, a successful Baton Rouge restaurateur and member of the Southeastern Former Football Players Association, was instrumental in the return of Southeastern football. He helped the university secure over $1 million in gifts mainly through his association with the directors of the Irene and C.B. Pennington Foundation. He also played a key role in the establishment of the Southeastern Gridiron Club.
