Favron is the 57th former Lion football player to be named to the Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame. The White Castle, Louisiana native is the first former SLU gridiron standout to be inducted since Felton Huggins in 2013.
Following a successful four-year career in Hammond, Favron was drafted 46th overall in the second round of the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979. Favron’s selection still marks the highest a Lion has ever been selected in the NFL Draft.
Favron had a breakout season as a senior, earning first-team All-Gulf South Conference honors. Second on the team with 58 tackles (10 for loss), Favron was a key member of a SLU defense that finished ranked nationally in scoring defense (1st, 7.1 ppg), total defense (2nd, 181.3 ypg), pass defense (10th, 93.5 ypg) and rushing defense (5th, 88.7 ypg).
Favron followed his Lion career by playing four seasons with the Cardinals from 1979-82. He played in 50 games, making 21 starts. Favron passed away in 1999.
