HAMMOND – Headland, Ala. native Spencer Adkinson has signed to continue her athletic and academic career as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University softball program, Southeastern head coach Pete Langlois announced on Tuesday.
 
Adkinson is a 5-11 shortstop/pitcher at Faulkner State Community College, where she has helped her team to a 38-12 record this season. She will have two years of eligibility remaining when she enrolls at Southeastern. Langlois believes the versatile Adkinson will be an immediate impact player for the Lady Lions.
 
“We're losing a great defensive shortstop in Kayla Elswick after this season,” Langlois commented. “We're expecting Spencer to come in and fill that role next year. She can also help us in the circle. We're excited to have a player with Spencer's experience and talents join our program.”
 
Adkinson prepped at Rehobeth High School, where she was a two-time All-State performer. In her final two seasons, she was named to the Dothan Eagle Super 12 team and the Wiregrass Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
 
The newest Lady Lions spent her freshman season at Charleston Southern, where she was 1-0 in five appearances in the circle. This season, she is 14-5 with a 2.01 ERA at Faulkner State, where she has struck out 89 in 125.2 innings of work. She also has posted a .276 batting average.
 
Adkinson will be one of nine newcomers on the Lady Lion roster in 2014. Also joining the program are catcher JoAnna Booty (Kentwood), third baseman Brittany Castro (Natalia, Texas), catcher Lacey Fritz (Cartersville, Ga.), first baseman Morgan Miller (Baton Rouge), corner infielder Kasey Nielson (Prairieville), pitcher Victoria Stamper (Williston, Fla.), centerfielder/middle infielder Brittney Tschoepe (Grandview, Texas) and outfielder Mychal Truxillo (River Ridge). The newest Lady Lions will open up the 2014 season on Feb. 7, when Southeastern hosts the Lion Classic.
