Alford Officially Invited To NFL Combine

Second Lion in three years invited to Indianapolis

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University cornerback Robert Alford was one of a contingent of 24 players from the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) invited to participate in the 2013 NFL Combine that is scheduled from Feb. 20-26 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the NFL announced on Thursday.

Alford, one of four FCS cornerbacks invited, is the second Lion in the past three years to be invited to the Combine joining former teammate Kevin Hughes, who was invited in 2011 and eventually signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams.

Alford will work out with other defensive back invitees on Feb. 26 and will be among a group of FCS defensive players that includes Demetrius McCray of Applachian State, Sam Houston State's Dax Swanson, William & Mary's B.W. Webb and Georgia Southern safety J.J. Wilcox. The Hammond native will also be joined by three members from LSU – Eric Reid, Tharold Simon and Tyrann Mathieu.

All 32 NFL teams will evaluate about 340 of the nation's top college players for the NFL Draft. Participants will be scheduled by position over the final four days of the Combine.
