FRISCO, Texas – After helping Southeastern Louisiana University to a come-from-behind 25-24 victory over No. 17-ranked McNeese State, defensive back Robert Alford was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in a release on Monday by the league office.

Alford, a senior from Hammond, recorded seven tackles against the Cowboys and sealed the Lions' first victory of the season with a diving, one-handed interception with 2:33 remaining in the contest.

Alford played a part in a defensive effort that held a potent McNeese State offense, averaging 497 yards total offense and 293 yards on the ground, to 319 and 147 yards respectively. As a unit, Southeastern held the Cowboys to 79 yards total offense in the second half.

Southeastern quarterback Nathan Stanley (Honorable mention – Offense) and punter Beau Mothe (Honorable mention – Special Teams) also received notice in a vote by the league's sports information directors.

Southeastern (1-3, 1-0 SLC) will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar (2-2, 0-0 SLC) in a 3 p.m. contest that will be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network.
