Jordan Wells Named To CFPA Kick Return Watch List

Sophomore one of 39 players nationally named to list

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Southeastern Louisiana University's Jordan Wells was one of 39 kickoff returners in the Football Championship Subdivision named Monday to the College Football Performance Awards Watch List for the upcoming 2012 season.

Wells, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, is the fourth Lion to be placed on a CFPA Watch List joining defensive back Robert Alford, linebacker Ricky Irvin and punter Matt McCormick.

As a redshirt freshman in 2011, Wells earned Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors and finished tied for 10th overall in the inaugural Jerry Rice Award after setting the league's single-season record in kickoff return yardage. Wells returned 52 kickoffs for 1,383 yards in 2011, breaking the previous record of 1,055 yards set by Texas State's Karrington Bush in 2008 and finished 28 yards shy of tying the previous NCAA mark of 1,411 set by David Primus of Samford in 1989.

His 26.6 yards per return ranked 15th nationally in the FCS and was third among freshmen. Against Central Arkansas in October, Wells totaled 265 yards on nine kickoff returns that also included a 91-yard return.

The CFPA Watch List is a rough guide, highlighting returning players with strong individual performances. All players are eligible for recognition at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration for weekly, annual, or career awards.

The official 2012 annual & career award announcement: January 9, 2013.

The announcement of the remaining award watch list will be:
July 9, 2012 - 2012 CFPA Punt Returner Award Watch List
July 16, 2012 - 2012 CFPA Watch List Announced
