Lady Lions Host Alcorn State

Southeastern looks to snap four-game skid on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Junior Bailey Zievert (Vinton, La.) leads the team with a 1.17 ERA
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team will return to the field on Thursday, facing Alcorn State at 6:30 p.m. at North Oak Park in a non-conference contest.

The Lady Lions (4-10) and Alcorn State (5-7) were originally scheduled to meet on Wednesday, but the game was pushed back a day due to inclement weather in the Hammond area. Live stats for Thursday's game will be available at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Thursday. The Lady Lions opened Southland Conference play with a 5-3 victory over Nicholls last Tuesday. However, the Colonels came back with two wins to close the series. Last weekend, UT Arlington took a doubleheader from the Lady Lions before Sunday's series finale was rained out.

The Lady Lions are hitting .221 as a team through the first 14 games of the season. Sophomore Jordan Logan leads the Lady Lions with a .367 batting average and 18 hits. Southeastern features three players with plus-.300 batting averages in Logan, sophomore Katelyn Thomason (.350) and junior Katie Duhe (.344). Duhe leads the team with a .417 on-base percentage, while Thomason has posted a team-best .500 slugging percentage.

Senior Amber Freeman leads the Lady Lions with seven runs batted in with Duhe right behind her with six RBI. Freeman has also scored a team-high six runs, while Duhe and Logan have scored five runs apiece. Sophomore Meghan Gomez leads Southeastern with two home runs. Freeman, Duhe, junior Tamra Ladnier and freshman Kelsey Nichols have all homered this season.

The Lady Lions have a 4.28 team earned run average. Thomason (3-3, 3.66 ERA, 29 K) and junior Bailey Zievert (0-0, 1.17 ERA) have been Southeastern's most consistent pictures in the season's first month. Freshman Kati Morse (0-2, 4.42 ERA), senior Catherine Gunther (0-3, 5.16 ERA), freshman Elise Kittrell (0-1, 6.00 ERA, 1 save) and sophomore Vicki Honeycutt (1-1, 8.08 ERA).

No individual statistics are available for visiting Alcorn State. In their latest action, the Lady Braves were swept by Arkansas-Monticello on March 3.

Southeastern has won all seven previous meetings versus Alcorn State. Last season, Southeastern won 6-5 in Lorman, Miss. and shutout the Lady Braves, 5-0, in Hammond.

Following Thursday's game, Southeastern will be back in action on Saturday, heading to Mobile, Ala. for a 2 p.m. contest versus South Alabama.
